Multicolor 3MF Printing

Print multicolor 3MF projects mapped to real material inventory

3MF can carry project structure, color, and material information that STL cannot. 3DMeow reads supported metadata and lets you map file channels to actual stocked materials before estimation and slicing.

Read supported 3MF data

Inspect color count and embedded project information when the format is supported.

Map real inventory

Choose a stocked substitute when file names or colors do not match inventory.

Review plates

Multi-object and multi-plate projects are grouped for production assessment.

Prepare a clean project

Export from the slicer with intentional objects and color assignments.

  • Check the color for each object/extruder
  • Remove objects that should not be produced
  • Confirm quantity and physical scale

Screen color is not physical color

Display values help mapping but do not guarantee a shade.

  • Choose from stocked material and colors
  • External filament names may require remapping
  • Request a sample for brand-sensitive color

Time and cost

Color changes and purging affect production time and material use.

  • Change frequency matters, not color count alone
  • Object separation and orientation affect purge
  • Slicing confirms the estimate after upload

Limitations to understand

  • Some 3MF metadata is supported; not every slicer extension is guaranteed
  • Screen color is not a physical color standard
  • Embedded settings may require adaptation to shop equipment and materials

FAQ

Questions before submitting

Can STL store multiple colors?

STL does not carry project color data like 3MF. Use 3MF or clearly separated objects for multicolor work.

What if a file color is not in stock?

The workflow asks you to map it to a real stocked color or material profile.

Can all embedded 3MF settings be used unchanged?

Not always. Settings must match the shop's machine, nozzle, material, and production workflow.
